Sankofa Drum and Dance Ensemble

The Marlboro High School Students Empowering Equality Club’s second annual Black History Month Jamboree was a success!

The event, which was held in the school's cafeteria on the evening of March 7, featured songs, poetry, and refreshments, as well as a performance by the Sankofa Drum and Dance Ensemble, which got many guests up and moving. The ensemble’s frontman, Kofi Donko, who is an internationally renowned master drummer, spoke about his native country of Ghana and shared information about the different drums and rhythms the musicians played.

The Jamboree was originally scheduled to take place in February during Black History Month, but winter weather pushed it to March. The new date seemed fitting, as many reiterated during the event—black history and culture should be celebrated all year round!
