Marlboro Central School District community member Junell Buzzurro has received the Ulster County School Boards Association (UCSBA) Distinguished Friend of Education Award. The annual award recognizes residents from the county’s school districts and Ulster BOCES for their dedication and commitment to students and schools.
Buzzurro was presented with the award during the UCSBA’s annual dinner, which was held at the Best Western in Kingston on November 21.
Buzzurro has served in leadership roles in several of the District's PTAs over the last 13 years and is a tireless volunteer and fundraiser in the community. Eight years ago she created the group ""Families Helping Families," which supports the school district in helping to provide for families during the holidays. Buzzurro coordinates and organizes this group on her own and has grown from supporting two families being sponsored by 27 community members to supporting 41 children being sponsored by 90 plus community members last year. Buzzurro is also the President of one of the local Ladies Auxiliaries and has recently begun running Pocketbook Bingos as fundraisers for other community groups.
Buzzurro doesn't do any of these things for the recognition, but for the simple reason of helping others. She has a contagious spirit and enthusiasm for helping and we are lucky to have her as such a devoted member of our community!
